More power is squandered everyday in the United States than in any other nation in the world. And with all the troubles Earth is confronting these days with pollution and the depletion of our ozone layer, we must help conserve energy, which in turn will assist our world.
In this article, we will discuss just a couple of things you can do to help save energy and also save a little bit of money daily. These things are extremely easy to do that anyone can do them; all the same, you will have to act for it to work and doing so you will help save the Earth.
Just switching off the lights each time you leave a room in your place is one of the easiest things you can do to not squander electrical energy. A lot of people tend to leave leave lights turned on in a room when they know they are going to come back, perhaps in ten or fifteen minutes. If you do this for merely a couple of times every day, it could add up to at least thirty minutes of squandered electrical energy. Even though it may not seem like much, the unfortunate truth is millions of people are doing the exact same thing daily. If you total the minutes for the year, that would be about 182 hours of power just for one light in one room for every individual that does this. Let’s say that we really leave the lights turned on for about 182 hours each year and let’s multiply that by one million people. That totals to 182,000,000 hours of electrical energy being consumed every year on just one light.
One more thing that is causing waste is the habit people have of entering a room and turning the lights on. It’s something many of us do without thinking. I often find myself doing it too. Nonetheless, there could be adequate light, possibly sunlight, coming into a room. However a lot of us still walk in a room and turn the lights on. And the worst part is because there is daylight, you may exit the room and leave the lights flipped the whole day because you don’t even know it’s on. You have to make a deliberate effort to leave the lights flipped off if there is sufficient natural light in a room.
One serious problem is people leaving things like television and radios on the whole day even if they are not in the same room. When I visit my mother, I have to remind her to turn the television off since she would leave it running even though she’s not watching. That’s a good deal of electricity being consumed. If you are not going to be in the room any longer and the TV is flipped on, flip it off.
These are simply a few easy things that can be done every day to help conserve electrical power and to help save the Earth by doing so. If everyone makes just a small effort to do these very simple things, it can add up to make a big difference.
